There are signs that the U.S. consumer is still spending, especially on experiences. But stubbornly high prices are squeezing consumers with lower incomes, pressuring everyday purchases and corporate profits. Broadly speaking, credit card companies like American Express, Visa and MasterCard have described spending trends as "relatively strong," "relatively stable," and even "healthy." Priceline parent Booking Holdings told analysts there are no signs consumers are taking shorter vacations or trading down in their hotel choices. McDonald's added that "the consumer is certainly being very discriminating in how they spend their dollar."

The artificial intelligence revolution is just getting started, and that means there are opportunities for investors to scoop up some names at a discount, according to Evercore ISI. Yet adoption is low, with less than 5% of U.S. firms reporting using AI, he said, citing U.S. Census Bureau data. To find "AI revolutionaries" that are trading at a discount, Evercore ISI looked for companies in the Russell 1000 with strongly trending AI mentions — either surpassing the index or the company's sector average. One of the names on the list is Uber Technologies , which mentioned AI 17 times last year. The company is also using AI to increase productivity.

Las Vegas hopes to hit the jackpot with the Super Bowl

CNN —When Super Bowl Sunday rolls around each year — whether it’s in Miami, New Orleans, Los Angeles or Minneapolis — Las Vegas still draws the crowds. It took years — and a Supreme Court ruling legalizing sports betting — for the National Football League to view Las Vegas in a different light. “We’re sold out, have been for the last month,” said Paul Hobson, general manager of the Sahara Las Vegas hotel-casino. “Las Vegas has a lot of people going there for Super Bowl weekend anyway,” Stephenson said. Additionally, the visitors it attracts spend a whole lot more than the ones who would show up on your typical Super Bowl weekend, Hill said.

Up to 450,000 people are expected to be in Vegas by Super Bowl weekend, and this influx of people has caused the city's hotel prices to surge. When big events come to town, whether it be the Super Bowl or Taylor Swift's Eras Tour , cities tend to get an economic boost . These economic impacts don't stop at cities' boundaries: surrounding areas like Boulder City could see an uptick in visitors and spending as well. He expects a similar — if not bigger impact — during Super Bowl week. An individual familiar with the airport's operations told the Las Vegas Review-Journal in a late January story that the airport's bookings around Super Bowl weekend were almost full to capacity.

New York CNN —Ticket prices for this year’s Super Bowl have dropped since last week, but it still might require hitting a casino jackpot to afford it. Despite the drop, this year’s Super Bowl still remains the most expensive on record, with the average purchase price currently at $9,850 — 70% more than the average purchase price of last year’s big game. The 2020 game, which was between the same two teams, was previously the most expensive Super Bowl on record, according to TickPick, which had an average purchase price of $6,370. Compared to the ticket prices, getting to Las Vegas and finding a place to sleep might seem like a bargain. San Francisco to Las Vegas roundtrip flights are slightly less, with the cost hovering around $383 (a 262% increase from last year on the same route).

How Will A.I. Change My Vacation This Year?

It is hard to believe that it has only been about a year since travelers started dabbling in ChatGPT-created itineraries. is like a teenage intern,” said Chad Burt, co-owner of the travel adviser network Outside Agents, “better, smarter, faster than you, but you need to lead them.”The expanding use of A.I. could influence how we book online, what happens when flights are canceled or delayed, and even how much we pay for tickets. For example, it could improve automatic rebooking onto new flights when customers miss connections or weather snarls runways. At United Airlines, for example, smarter software can offer rebooking options and issue food and lodging vouchers when a flight is canceled, rather than just rebooking a flight.

Read previewSnap's invite-only creator program was a buzzy topic of conversation last year in the influencer industry. The program, known as Snap Stars, gained initial popularity for its lucrative paydays based on its stories ad-revenue-sharing model. But these payouts aren't the only way Snap Stars can make money. For instance, online travel agency Priceline was among the first brands to work with Snapchat creators through the Snap Star Collab Studio program early last year. The Snap Star Collab Studio program is similar to TikTok's creator marketplace where brands can pitch creators directly.

As inflation continues to sting, more travelers are expected to hunt for bargains this year, and the industry is responding by offering deals across the travel landscape, from hotels to cruises and tours. “Despite inflation and higher prices, we continue to see a strong preference for experiences with travel,” said Brett Keller, the chief executive of the online travel agency Priceline, which will hold one of its biggest sales this month, including 30 percent off select hotel stays and up to 50 percent off rental cars. Given strong demand, travel companies can usually hold fast on prices, but by offering seasonal sales, they can hedge against changes in the future. “There is a benefit to hoteliers in securing bookings with more lead time so they can more accurately understand demand,” said Christine Guadenzi, the director of sales and marketing for the Family Coppola Hideaways, a collection of small hotels that includes the coastal Turtle Inn in Belize, which will offer 20 percent off room rates booked Nov. 24 to Dec. 15 (discounted rates start at $335 a night, compared to the usual $419 price tag).

BRUSSELS (AP) — The European Union's executive arm said Monday it is blocking leading U.S. online travel agency Booking from acquiring Sweden's flight booking provider Etraveli Group because it would have allowed it to increase its dominant position on the market on the continent. The European Commission said it had warned Booking Holdings about its concerns but that the remedies offered by the company were not sufficient. “Bans are rare, and today’s decision is in fact the first merger to be blocked this year,” EU Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders said. NEW YORK, July 25 (Reuters) - Retail giant Walmart (WMT.N) on Tuesday said it is teaming up with online travel agency Expedia Group (EXPE.O) to offer its subscription service members travel benefits for the first time as retailers increase service offerings to offset a slowing in spending on goods.
